Accommodation
Welcome to ‘Sweet Ballygowan’, an early 20th century farmers cottage nestled in the in the hills between Portumna, Woodford and Loughrea in the rural town land of Ballygowan.
Ballygowan belongs to the parish of Abbey which takes its name from the ‘Abbey of Kilnalahan’, the ruins of which remains in the centre of the village, dating back to the mid-thirteenth century.
The house was rescued from dereliction and lovingly restored to its present condition by a romantic sole who lavished all his creative energy into preserving the character and personality of the house which makes an Irish Cottage something very special. We hope you enjoy making Sweet Ballygowan your home from home as much as we have loving it.
The Farm House
The Farm House, which would have been the main residence of the farmer and his family comprises of one double bedroom, one bedroom suite with en suite, living/dining/kitchen, utility and shower room.
The Farm house can accommodate 4 guests. There are two double bedb, one in each of the two luxurious bedroom. The house has been restored true to the style and period it would have originally had with a few modern conveniences cleverly included.
The Stable
The Stable would have been used as shelter for the farm animals and a store for fruit and vegetables grown on the farm by the family for use over the winter months.
Today it comprises of a spacious and modern one bedroom apartment housing a kitchen, living/dining room, bathroom and double bedroom accommodating 2 further guests. It is in contrast to the Farm House as it is furnished in a more contemporary style.
The Garden
A secret or maybe not so secret passion of the owner is gardening, and this is beautifully displayed in the stylish box wood heading, selection of topiary trees and overflowing window boxes you will be greeted by on your arrival.
There is a traditional gravel drive way and paved dining area, perfect for a bar-b-que and outdoor dining on a hot summer evenings.
